An anti-Semitic Russian neigh-
bor beat up Moshe Mendelevich,
the father of Yosif Mendelevich,
one of the defendants in the first
Leningrad trial.
According to the report, the
neighbor who had frequently ex-
pressed hostility toward Jews
broke into the Mendelevich flat,
pushed his wife aside and attacked
the elderly man.
Mendelevich was hospitalized
and his wife was sent home after
treatment.
A daughter summoned police,
who arrested the neighbor but re-

the report said.
A Hebrew-Russian and Rus-

Soviet educational authorities
announced for publication some
time ago, is yet to appear in
book stores, according to Jewish
sources in Moscow. Would-be
purchasers asking for the dic-
tionary are told by book vendors
that they never heard of it.
The sources say it is not known
whether the dictionary was with-
drawn after printing or whether
the original announcement was
nothing but a propaganda stunt.
The same sources reported that
Soviet army units have closed the
road to Rumpuli outside Riga, the
gravesite of Jewish martyrs.
When Jewish groups employed in
clearing and restoring the site
tried to reach it last Sunady, they
were told that the area has been
closed to civilians, the sources
said.
