Shapero Nursing School Completed;
Benefactors Cited at Graduation

Completion of the Shapero
School of Nursing addition at Sinai
Hospital was marked by a dinner
honoring Mr. and Mrs. Nate S.
Shapero T h u r s d a y, preceding
graduation ceremonies for the
practical nursing school.
The Shaperos, original benefac-
tors of the school, gave an initial
$500,000 for its founding through
the Nate S. and Ruth B. Shapero
and Cunningham Drug Co. Foun-
dation. A recent gift of $250,000
from the Shaperos provided for
the just-completed 3,400-square-
foot addition which encompasses
a reception room, six offices and
two classrooms, one of which can
be divided into two rooms by
means of a folding door.
The addition enables the school
to increase its enrollment by 25
per cent to about 130 students in
classes beginning in March and
September each year

class brings the total number of
students graduated by Shapero
School in its 15-year history to
1,090.
The school is one of 34 prac-
tical nursing school in Michigan
and the only one which is nation-
ally accredited. It is one of eight
in the state with a program of
continuing education for practical
nurses and serves as the center
for continuing education in the De-
