$40,000,000 Shopping Center for Tel Aviv TEL AVIV—One of the world's most ambitious downtown shopping developments will rise in the heart of Tel Aviv. The new $40,000,000 project will provide 1,200,000 square feet of store and access areas covering 7 1/2 acres in the center of Israel's largest city, along Dizengoff Street, the country's main shop- ping and cafe boulevard. The unique in-city complex, called Dizengoff Center, will be built in the form of curved ramps with access to automobiles and parking space for 1,000 cars. The landscaped interiors of the center will include pedestrian malls and cafe sitting areas, as well as stores of all types. They will be air-conditioned in summer, heated in winter and exposed to day- lights. The will be separated from JEANS Flare leg styling. Zip and button-front. Color choice. lights. They will be separated from the parking by an "air curtain" wall, thus exposing the entire project to view by those entering it. The new center will include hun- dreds of stores located by trade branches to form convenient, plan- ned shopping groups as well as cinemas, a convention hall, res- taurants and cafes, art galleries, and entertainment facilities. The entire project will be topped by three rounded hotel towers of vary- ing height up to 30 stories, which will provide 1,100 rooms in the heart of the city, in Tel Aviv's first modern downtown hotel cen- ter for overseas visitors and Is- raelis. Planned for completion by 1975, store space is being sold as is cus- tom here. Another reason, he told the crowd, was to provide more time for completion of a research pro- ject on problems of poverty in Israel. The Black Panthers announced Tuesday they would go under- ground because the Israel govern- ment "had decided to liquidate us." The stencilled leaflets an- nouncing this move were distribut- ed shortly after a police spokes- man reported that the number of Panthers arrested after another demonstration in Jerusalem's Zion Square Monday night had risen to 21. The spokesman also told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that several Panthers would be charged with disturbing the peace and at- tacking policemen. Experts on domestic social prob- lems expressed skepticism about the announced Panther plan to go underground because members' names and descriptions are widely known, partly as a result of delib- erate Panther bids for public at- tention for their grievances.
