Seminary to Honor Vabbis Segal, Zemach

Seminary of America at a special
convocation at the Park Avenue

salem, was educated at City Col-
lege, New York (BA), and Co-
lumbia University (MA). before
entering the Seminary, where he
was ordained in 1939. He also
received the degree of master
of Hebrew literature. After a
short term in the pulpit of Bnai
Zion Congregation, Chicago,
Rabbi Segal entered the U.S.
army as a chaplain. He worked
with DPs in Germany, France

The congregation membership
and community is invited to attend
the receiving ceremony at -11:15
a.m. in the new synagogue. Fol-
lowing, a reception will be held
and refreshments will be served.

Rabbi Zemach, born in Minne-
sota and educated in the public
schools of Minneapolis and the
Minneapolis Talmud Torah, was
graduated from the University
of Minnesota, and received a
master's degree from the Uni-
versity of Michigan, as well as
the degree of master of Hebrew
literature from the Seminary,
where he was ordained in 1941.

After a year as rabbi in Elgin,
Ill., Rabbi Zemach entered the
army as a chaplin, serving with
an infantry division in Europe
during World War II. Since the
war, he has remained in the army
reserves, with the rank of lieuten-
ant colonel. He has been with the
Hillel Foundation since 1946, ex-
cept for a three-year term as rabbi
in Duluth, Minn.
He served as Hillel director at
the Universities of Pennsylvania
and Colorado before coming to
Michigan State. He has also taught
in the religious department at the
university (1958-1968) and has
served as chaplain with the U.S.
army garrison in Detroit.
