Stag Day to Honor AJC Workers
Nominations are being taken
for members of the board of
directors of the Detroit Service
Group, to be elected at the 22nd
annual Stag Day, Wednesday,
Sept. 8, at Franklin Hills Coun-
try Club, announced Harvey Wil-
lens, chairman of the nominating
committee.
The biennial business meeting
of the Detroit Service Group, at
which the elections will be held,
is part of the traditional recogni-
tion dinner to honor men who
have worked in the 1971 Allied
Jewish Campaign-Israel Emer-
gency Fund. Officers for the corn-
ing two-year term are elected at
the first board meeting held fol-
lowing Stag Day.
Nominated for a two-year term
to the board are Jerome M. Ash,
Harold Berry, N. Brewster Brod-
er, Sol R. Colton, Merle Harris,
Charles Milan, David S. Mondry,
Jack A. Robinson, and Jerry La-
pides and Marvin Talan, repre-
senting Pontiac.
Present members-at-large nom-
inated for an additional two-year
term are Dr. Abraham Becker,
Louis C. Blumberg, Tom Borman,
Aubrey H. Ettenheimer, Samuel
Frankel, Warren D. Greenstone,
Lewis S. Grossman, Paul M. Ran-

Recognition of the efforts
which individuals made in help-
ing the Detroit Jewish commu-
nity create the largest Allied
Jewish Campaign-Israel Emer-
gency Fund ever is part of the
evening program_ Paul Broder,
president of the Detroit Service
Group, indicated that special
honors will be accorded the
chairmen of the 1971 campaign,
Meyer M. Fishman and Max M.
Shaye. In addition, the leading
campaign division will receive
the traditional Detroit Service
Group loving cup awards.
The program, which includes
golf, begins at 9 a.m. and contin-
ues until 4 p.m. A buffet lunch will
be served between 11 a.m. and
2 p.m. In the evening cocktails will
be at 5:30 and dinner at 7.

Bonds, Bnai David to Honor Shere
Charles N. Shere, who has
served as president of Cong. Bnai
David for three terms and was
active in the general community,
has been named "Bnai David Man
of the Year," it was announced
by Dr. Maurice M. Silverman,
president of the congregation.
Shere will be honored at the
Bnai David Israel 23rd anniver-
sary dinner on Sept. 14 at the
synagogue.
He has been on the board of
trustees of of Bnai David for over
30 years and held the offices of

..a n d treasurer,
and been a key
figure in the
planning and
construction -o f
the present syna-
gogue. Shere,
along with Jo-
seph Gorman and
the late Isadore
Gruskin, pur-
Shere chased the site
on Southfield in 1954. He visited
many synagogue to get ideas for
the present sanctuary and the for-
mat of the bimah.
Shere authorized the start of the
Bnai David religious school and
he was co-chairman of the 60th
anniversary celebration.
Active in the Allied Jewish
Campaign since 1932, Shere is a
member of Louis Brandeis Lodge
of Bnai Brith, of the Zionist Or-
ganization of Detroit, American
Jewish Congress and is identified
with a number of institutions in
Israel.
Born in Chicago, Shere has
lived in Detroit for 55 years, grad-
uating from Cass Technical High
School and receiving his law de-
gree from the Detroit College of

The board of directors of Jo-
seph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc.,
have elected Jack Yogman presi-
dent and chief executive officer
of the company. He was formerly
executive vice president and chief
operating officer.
Yogman, 50, succeeds Edgar M.
Bronfman, who was elected presi-
dent of the parent company, Dis-
tillers Corporation-Seagrams Lim-
ited, headquartered in Montreal.
Yogman has been named vice
president of Distillers Corporation-
Seagrams Limited as well.
The realignment in top execu-
tive positions at both the Canadian
parent company and its American
subsidiary follows the death on
July 10 of Samuel Bronfman,
founder and former president of
Distillers Corporation - Seagrams
Limited.
The new president of Joseph E.
Seagram & Sons, Inc., has held a
number of top executive posts
since since joining the company in
1957 as assistant to the president,
Edgar M. Bronfman. In 1961, Yog-
man was named vice president and
in 1965 executive vice president.
He was appointed chief operating
officer in October 1968.
In 1957, the year Rogman joined
Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc.
company sales were $586,902,000.
Sales in 1970 totaled $1,158,777,000.
Law. He has practiced law for
40 years and is president of the
Detroit College of Law Alumni,
Class of •1931 and served as chan-
cellor of Lambda Kappa Epsilon
Law Fraternity.
