to Be 1st of Its Kind

dox Aliya Exposition to be held in
Israel for Orthodox tourists and
students will take place in Jeru-
salem Aug. 1-4, it was announced
by Emanuel Gruss and Rabbi
Fabian Schonfeld, co-chairmen of
the joint aliya committee of the
Union of Orthodox Jewish Congre-
gations of America.
The "Orthodox Aliya Expo,"
at Hechal Shlomo, will feature, in
addition to public sessions, con-
sultations with housing, educational
and employment and business per-
sonnel, as well as representatives
of the Israel Ministry of Immigra-
tion and Absorption, the Jewish
Agency and aliya organizations.

For the time being, the minis-
try has discontinued all tourist
promotion and advertising and is
concentrating on improving tour-
ist facilities, Givton said.
He said the income from tour-
ism for the first quarter, not in-
cluding fares, amounted to over
$28,000,000. He said the United
States was still the biggest source
of tourist traffic to Israel, with
France second.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A sharp
dispute has surfaced between two
groups of West Bank dignitaries,
one of which opposes the "open
bridges" policy that allows free
traffic and trade between the West
Bank and Jordan and opens the
West Bank to visitors from the
rest of the Arab world.
The group is planning to peti-
tion the Arab League Council con-
vening in Cairo shortly to demand
a closing of the bridges. They
claim the open bridges policy is
tantamount to Arab recognition of
Israel and helps the Israeli au-
thorities solve the economic and
social problems of the West Bank.
The other group contends that
the petitioners are advocates of a
separate Palestinian state on the
West Bank. They claim that if the
bridges are closed, young Arabs
would be forced to study in Is-
raeli rather than in Arab univer-
sities and that all West Bank resi-
dents would have to find jobs in
Israel.
It was reported that Syria and
Lebanon will propose in Cairo
