"Jerusalem, Serusalem," now
before the cameras in the Arab
quarters of the Old City, will be
shot entirely on location including
sites of such historic interest as
the streets of the formerly divided
capital, in Bethlehem, on the road
to Jericho, at the Dead Sea, and
within the Judean Desert.
Bruce Davison, who rose to star-
dom in Metro's "The Strawberry
Statement" portrays the protagon-
ist reflecting an American view-
point; opposite him appears as
the young Israeli, Daria Halprin,
also a MGM newcomer who made
her debut in Antonioni's "Zabris-
kie Point." Two of Great Britain's
foremost actors, Nicol William-
son and Donald Pleasence, essay
principal parts. The supporting
cast features such native perform-
ers as David Smadar, Yair Rubin
and Yona Elian. John Flynn who
made himself a name with the
film, "The Sergeant" directs with
award-winning French cinemato-
grapher Raoul Coutard and Eng-
lish editor Norman Wanstall at
his side.
The story itself has highly con-
troversial aspects; on the screen
our heroes get involved with the
Israeli Secret Police and also
clash with Arab terrorists. Good
intentions lead to trouble and
bloodshed.
The government in Jerusalem
has been divided about the stamp
of approval which would give
MGM a tax rebate as well as an
advance loan on the production.
Zeev Birger of "Film Center" is
in favor of such an outspoken epic
as "Jerusalem, Jerusalem," while
the foreign office insists on some
changes before the picture can be
classified as an Israeli film. A
decision on the part of the gov-
ernment is forthcoming.

ARTHUR ORNITZ (son of the
famed playwright of the 1930s),
New York's most• outstanding
cinematographer who has filmed
"A Thousand Clowns," "Boys in
the Band," "Charly," "World of
Henry Orient" and "Requiem for
a Heavyweight" also was behind
the camera of "The Anderson
Tapes" working in close colla-
boration with Sidney Lumet who
prides himself on never having
made a motion picture in Holly-
wood.

SIDNEY LUMET'S "The An-
derson Tapes" was highly ac-
claimed by the press during the
first screening in Hollywood this
week, though the public may think
otherwise. One of America's most
distinguished young filmmakers,
Lumet has averaged a film a year
since making his impressive direc-
torial debut in 1957 with "Twelve
Angry Men," one of the few of
his pictures in which he combined
artistry with box office appeal. He
has since guided diverse, often
highly controversial films.

Membership in the Camp Fire
Girls — Detroit Area Council, a
Torch Drive service, increased 25
per cent in 1970 to a total of 10,488.
