Terrorist Found Guilty of Six Murders; Averts Death Due to Israeli Law Technicality TEL AVIV (JTA) — What was probably the longest prison sen- tence ever handed down by an Is- raeli court—military or civilion- was imposed by a Gaza tribunal Wednesday on 30-year-old Mah- moud Mussa Yassin, alias Bu Nimmer, a commander of the Pop- ular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in the Gaza Strip. Yassin was found guilty of six murders, two of his victims being Arab women. Captured while try- ing to rape an Arab girl, he was sentenced to a life term for each of the murders, plus 14 years. The terrorist leader narrowly averted the death sentence because only one judge tried his case. Under Israeli law, the death penalty can be imposed only if two or more judges are presiding.
