sic utliniti nWISH NEWS Friday, July 9, 1971-43 OBITUARIES Itzhak Tabenkin, Veteran Zionist and Labor Leader, Dies in Israel TEL AVIV (JTA) — Itzhak Tabenkin, veteran Zionist and labor leader who co-founded His- tadrut, the Ahdut Avoda Party and the Palmah, died Tuesday morn- ing of a blood ailment at age 82. At his bedside was Minister Without Portfolio Israel Galili, a close friend and admirer. Mr. Tabenkin was also a friend of former Premier David Ben- Gurion, although the former re- cently leaned toward the Greater - 4) Israel concept — no territorial retreat whatsoever — while the latter favors withdrawal in ex- change for a genuine peace. Premier Golda Meir expressed deep sorrow at his death and praised him as a great man of Israel. Mr. Tabenkin, who was born in Russia, also founded Kibutz Ein Harod, where he lived. He was a Mapam member of the Knesset from 1949 to 1951.
