Movsas Goldoftas, educator and
leader in Labor Zionist circles for
many years-30 of them in the
U.S.-died Thursday morning at
age 79.

Morris Bachman;
Was Obstetrician

Morris E. Bachman, , Detroit ob-
stetrician for 45 years, died June
16 at age 71. Born in Russia, he
had lived in Detroit 53 years.
Dr. Bachman, 23300 Providence,
7 Southfield, was a 1926 graduate
of the University of Michigan
cal School, specializing in
trics and gynecology. He
sewed on the staffs of Hutzel and
-• Sinai Hospitals, and was an asso-
P ciate professor at Wayne State
L...University's school of medicine.

Dr. Bachman was a member of
the American College of Obste-
trics and Gynecology, a Diplomate
of the American Board of Obste-
trics and Gynecology, a Fellow
, in the American College of Sur-
geons, a founder and past presi-
dent of Phi Lambda Kappa Medi-
cal Fraternity and past president
of the Maimonides Medical So-
ciety.
He also was a founder and
first president of the Town and
Country Club and a member of
Perfection Lodge of the Masons.
He leaves his wife, Clara; four
daughters, Mrs. Alan Lakin, Mrs.
Milton Goldrath, Mrs. Stuart La-
Kind and Mrs. Harvey Komorn;
and 12 grandchildren.

Benjamin Siegal, 79;
Ran Convention Firm

Benjamin Siegal, founder and
president of the National Exposi-
tion Service, Inc., a convention and
trade service at 1601 W. Lafayette,
died June 17. He. was 79 and
founded the firm in 1920.
Born in Austria, Mr. Siegal,
3830 W. Outer Dr., was a 50-year
resident of Detroit. He was past
president of Cong. Beth Abraham.
Surviving are his wife, Ann; a
son, Leonard; a daughter, Mrs.
Irwin (Mildred) Chaitin; a brother,
Samuel; a sister, Mary in England;
and eight grandchildren.

Dr. Sheba ; Headed
- Tel Hashomer Hospital

TEL AVIV-Dr. Haim Sheba,
director of the Tel Hashomer Hos-
pital, died June 10 at age 63. Born
in Romania and educated in Vien-
na, he came to Palestine in 1932..
He headed the medical service of
the Hagana and with the establish-
ment of the state, set up the army
medical corps,
Director-general of the ministry
of health from 1950 to 1953, Dr.
Sheba served as vice president of
Tel Aviv University and was a pro-
fessor on the medical faculty. He
fought to keep Israeli medical
standards among the highest in
DIP world.

Mr. Goldoftas, 18041 Schaefer,
was principal for 25 years of the
Hayim Greenberg School, run by
the Farband Labor Zionist Order.
He also was current cultural di-
rector of Farband and taught at
the Midrasha. He was well known
as a Hebraist. A source of great
pride to him was the fact that
seven of his students at the United
Hebrew Schools have just received
scholarships to study at the He-
brew University.
Born in Lithuania, where he at-
tended the Teachers' College in
Vilna, Mr. Goldoftas lived in Bel-
gium prior to coming to this coun-
try. His wife, Shulamit, and son
Tobi, now of Cleveland, came with
him. Four grandchildren also sur-
vive.
From 1930 to 1940, Mr. Goldoftas
was executive secretary of the
Zionist Organization of Brussels.
He was secretary for four years
of the City Committee of Farband
here, and he organized a majority
of programs for the group.
Besides education, his major
interest was Israel. In 1966-67,
he took a one-year sabbatical dur-
ing which he conducted a survey,
of the educational system in Israel.
He also made a trip there in 1959.
Mr. Goldoftas published several
articles in The Amerikaner mag-
azine, in the Forward, Tag and
"Lithuanian Jew" publication.
Funeral services were scheduled
for 11 a.m. today at Chesed shel
Emes.

Jack Kreekun, 76,
Bay City Realtor

Jack Kreekun, prominent Bay
City realter for many years, died
June 17 at age 76.
Mr. Kreekun, owner of Jack
Kreekun Real Estate, was past
president of the Bay County Board
of Realtors. Born in Kiev, he lived
in the Bay City area for some 37
years.
A veteran of World War I, Mr.
Kreekun was affiliated with the
Veterans of Foreign Wars and
American Legion. He also belonged
to Temple Israel of Bay City, A. B.
Roman. Lodge of Bnai Brith, the
Michigan and National Real Estate
associations, International R e a 1
Estate •Federation, Elks and Bay
City Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Minna;
two brothers, Albert and Joseph,
both of Detroit; and two sisters,
Mrs. Lillian .Buchanan of San An-
tonio and Mrs. Ann Schiller of
Minneapolis.

Tom Nessel,' Squash
Champion at Center

Thomas ,Nessely 20278 Stahelin,
died Monday during squash prac-
tice at the Jewish Center. He was
39.
e lar..Nessel was one of the star
handball and squash players at the
Center for a number of years.
Surviving are his wife, Marlene
Pritz; two sons, Marc and Eric; a
daughter, Debra; his mother, Mrs.
Nellie Nessel; and three sisters,
Mrs. Morton Myers of Miami
Beach, Mrs. Irving Goodgall and
Mrs. Simon Binke.

Louis Davidson, 83

Louis E. Davidson, founder in
1925 of Davidson's Apparel Shop,
ladies' ready-to-wear shop in Birm-
ingham, died Tuesday at age 83.
Mr. Davidson, 19100 W. Seven
Mile, was born M Romania and
lived in the Detroit area 60 years.
Surviving are a son, Sherwin;
a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Leah)
Jay; two sisters and five grand-
children.

Helen Holtzman, wife of Joseph
Holtzman, who is nationally prom-
inent as a chairman of the United
Jewish Appeal, died Monday. Pri-
vate funeral services were held
Tuesday.
Surviving besides her husband
are two sons, Irwin and David; a
daughter, Mrs. Rosalie Sosnick;
two brothers, Leonard and Gershon
Horton of Detroit; two sisters, Mrs.
P. I. Sweetwine of Miami and Mrs.
Jason L. Honigman of Detroit; and
10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Holtzman took an active
interest in many philanthropic
movements and was a member of
Hadassah and the Shaarey Zedek
Sisterhood. She shared her hus-
band's many interests, including
Israel Bonds, Allied Jewish Cam-
paign and other causes. She ac-
companied him on trips to Israel.

Maurice Sills, Jeweler

Maurice Sills, 24230 Blackstone,
Oak Park, who for many years
owned a jewelry shop on Liver-
nois, died Tuesday.
Surviving are his wife, Diana;
three sons, Dr. Richard D., Dr.
William G. and Charles H. Sills; a
