JWV Convention
Slated June 25-27

The Department of Michigan,
Jewish War Veterans, and its La-
dies Auxiliary, will convene June
25-27, with events scheduled in both
the Southfield Civic Center and
Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel.
Department Commander Sidney
Lantz and Auxiliary President Jean
Friedman announced that services
and an oneg Shabat will open the
weekend's proceedings in the
Southfield Civic Center auditorium.
A dinner-dance honoring Lantz
will be held at the Sheraton-Cadil-
lac the following evening. On June
27, joint memorial services will be
conducted at the hotel, and scholar-
ship awards will be presented. That
afternoon, elections for department
and auxiliary officers will take
place at the convention business
meeting.

JWV Boosts Courses
in Civil Defense

A special award has been offer-
ed by JWV National Civil Defense
Officer Robert Penn to the first
post submitting a letter with the
names of five persons who have
completed courses in shelter man-
agement, radiological monitoring
and medical self help in South-
field.
The letters have been submitted
to the JWV national headquarters.
The winning post will receive the
award during the national conven-
tion of the JWV in Minneapolis
Aug. 8-15.
Sid Lantz, state commander of
the Jewish War Veterans and a
member of Southfield Civil De-
fense, stated there are many
classes available under the direc-
tion of Col. Arthur C. Becker, di-
rector of civil defense for the city
of Southfield.
