THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

he story of the Jews of America can only be told as a part of the history of America itself.
More than a century before the time of Jefferson and Washington, Jewish families had already
brought their ancient heritage to the shores of the New World. The inspiration and vitality
of that heritage will now be captured forever in this unique series of superbly sculpted art medals.

sculptor's art.
A Treasured Family Heirloom
A medallic collection is a permanent
record, growing in value from year to
year, handed down from parent to child.
The Medallic History of the Jews of
America is something more. It is a
spiritual tie between the generations, a
moving emotional testimony in
everlasting metal to the depth and
strength of the roots which bind together
all the Jews of America, regardless of age,
background, interests or worldly
attainment.
Subjects of the Series
The medals in this historical series will
portray the impact made by Jews on
American history and culture in such
fields as the Sciences, Government,
Business and Industry, Arts and Letters,
Sports and Entertainment.
One hundred and twenty medals will
be created, with their subjects in
chronological sequence, beginning with
the 1654 landing at Nieu Amsterdam.
Two medals will be struck each month,
for 60 months. The series will be available
in 24 Kt gold on sterling, solid sterling
silver, or solid bronze.
Hallmarked Art Medals
The Judaic Heritage Society has selected
The Franklin Mint, the world's foremost
private mint, to produce this unique
series of commemorative medals under

As the United States approaches its
bicentennial in 1976, any national
assessment must surely recognize the
impact on American life of Jewish
thought, vitality and cultural traditions.

America's First Jewish Community
It was in 1654 that twenty-three Dutch
settlers arrived in Nieu Amsterdam to
found the first Jewish community in the
New World. Since that time, millions of
Jews — native-born or Americans by
choice — have lived out their destinies,
enhancing and enriching their 300-year
history in a growing and ever-changing
America.
A Bridge to Understanding
This Medallic History will serve as more
than simply a beautiful and valuable
reminder of the rich historical and
cultural heritage of American Jews. It will
heighten awareness and broaden
understanding of all things Jewish and
