Students to Be Honored for Achievements
in Jewish Education at -Services on Weekend

Graduations, confirmations and
consecrations this weekend will
mark milestones in Jewish educa-
tion for many Detroit area stu-
dents.
Following is a listing of those
who will be honored by their reli-
gious schools this weekend.
High school graduation and con-
secration of confirmands will be
held at Temple Beth El at 8:30
p.m. today. A class of 44 will be
graduated.
Rabbi Richard C. Hertz will give
the baccalaureate sermon "Be A
Booster," and David Alan Shapero
will deliver the valedictory ad-
dress. Diplomas and prayer books
will be presented by Rabbi Morton
M. Kanter, Harold Lawson, presi-
dent of the men's club, and Albert
D. Blatnikoff, immediate past pres-
ident of the men's club.
Awards will be presented by
James J. Levbarg, educational
director of the temple; Robert N.
Canvasser, president of the tem-
ple; and Ronald L. Greenberg,
chairman, religious school commit-
tee.

Bnei Akiva Youth
Map `Shavuaton'

Bnei Akiva, in conjunction with
Young Israel Teens, will sponsor
a "Shavuaton" at Young Israel
Center of Oak-Woods, beginning,
10:30 p.m. Saturday and continu-
ing through the night until dawn.
There will be speakers and dis-
cussions led by rabbis, and it will
end with Shaharit prayers Sunday
morning. All students are invited.
"Tikun Shavuot" is an old cus-
tom of studying on the first night
of Shavuot, the night that Moses
received the 10 Commandments
and the Torah from God on Mt.
Sinai.

At 10:30 Saturday morning serv-
ices, the 1971 confirmation class
will be blessed. Shavuot services
and confirmation exercises will be
held 9:45 a.m. Sunday. A class of
82 will be confirmed by Rabbis
Hertz and Kanter.
Temple Beth Jacob of Pontiac
will hold its confirmation service
8 p.m. Saturday. The service will
be conducted by Rabbi H. Philip
Berkowitz. Dr. M. Kenneth Dick-
stein, president of Beth Jacob, and
Robert Sachs. chairman of the re-
ligious school, announce that the
