Charles Evers, mayor of Fay-
ette, Miss., Democratic candi-
date for governor of Mississippi
and brother of slain civil rights
leader Medgar Evers, accepts
the "Profiles in Courage" Award
from Mrs. Ethel Kennedy, widow
of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, dur-
ing ceremonies sponsored by the
John F. Kennedy Lodge of Bnai
Brith in Washington, D.C. The
award, named for the book writ-
ten by the late President Ken-
nedy, cited Evers for his "loy-
alty" and "courage" as the first
black mayor of a major southern
city.

at its fifth annual installation din-
ner-dance, saw Herman Kasoff,
• member of District 6 Board of
-f- Governors, install the following:
:'r President, Sidney Freeland; vice
- presidents, Erwin Bunin, Harold
Samuels and David Weiner; secre-
taries, David Redisch, George Mey-
erson and Donald Simon; treasur-
er, Irving Lyness; chaplain, Mau-
rice Rosender; and warden, Sidney
Stolsky. Forty-five new members
were presented with membership
pins, and there was a surprise pre-
sentation to Nathan Rubenstein by
Maurice Rosender, outgoing presi-
dent, for his efforts in helping to
establish the lodge.

Committee Formed
to Aid Haifa Yeshiva

A committee in support of Ye-
shiva Mishkan Yaakov in Haifa
was formed here during the recent
visit of Rabbi David S. Katz, rosh
yeshiva.
Rabbi Katz visited seniors at
Akiva Hebrew Day School, who
agreed to devote part of their an-
:. nual charity drive to the yeshiva.
He also spoke at local yeshivot,
where he told how his yeshiva
takes, on scholarship, Jewish refu-
gees from Arab countries.
The Detroit committee, in forma-
tion, includes Rabbis James I.
Gordon, Samuel Prero, Alex Rob-
erg and A. M. Cohen, among oth-
