Mrs. Berry Mrs. Hamburger Mrs. Schauer 4 David Silvers Attend JNF Woodland Planting; Rosenfelds Dedicate Forest Dr. William Haber and Mrs. Morris Schaver have been named honorary chairmen of the annual Jewish National Fund dinner, set for June 17 at Cong. Shaarey Ze- dek. The Rabbi Morris and Goldie Adler Forest will be planted in Israel with proceeds of the din- ner. Reservations are now being taken at the JNF office, 968-0820. Dinner invitations were in the mail this week. Philip Slomovitz, chairman of this year's dinner, also announced that Mrs. Samuel Hamburger has been named a co-chairman of the event and will serve in that capac- ity with the other co-chairmen, Louis Berry, Irwin I. Cohn, Leon- ard N. Simons and Paul Zucker- man. Mrs. Louis Berry has been named chairman of hostesses for the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. David Silver attended a ceremony that marked the planting of a Jewish National Woodland they financed in Israel. At the ceremony were, (from left): Rabbi and Mrs. Elimelech Ittamar, former Detroiters; Rabbi Benjamin Gorrelick, Mr. and Mrs. Silver, Mrs. Gorrelick, Mrs. Yehudit Landau, sister of Mrs. Silver, who is a teacher in the Holon Schools in Israel; and Gad 'Baler of the world office of the Keren Kayemet (31STF). Women of J \1F Hold Officers Installation The Women of Jewish National Fund announced its new officers at an installation luncheon Tuesday at Cong. Bnai Moshe. Last year she personally enlisted 165 members in the group. The Rosenfelds inspired the plant- ing of a forest in Israel by the United Jewish Social Club of Detroit in which Michael Barth, its former president, is playing an active role. This club's forest is expected to be planted. in the Kennedy Establishment near Jerusalem. Criterion Club Elects Betty Weinberg Betty Weinberg was chosen presi- dent of Criterion Club at the organi- zation's annual elections last week. She succeeds William Fleisher. Elected with Miss Weinberg were the following: Bertha Miller, Pearl Greenstein and Nate Rubin, vice presidents; Rose Vosk, execu- tive secretary; Mildred •Madven, financial secretary; William Fleish- er, counselor; Philip Shapiro, his- torian; and Manuel Helfman, Vic- tor Kron, Lilyan Rosenblatt, Sally Sidran and Ida Zabel, directors. The officers will be installed at a dinner-dance Saturday evening at Northwood Inn. Robert St. John, eminent author whose biography of Israel Foreign Minister Abba Eban will be pub- lished late this year, will be the guest speaker. Goldie Adler has been named the recipient of the honor at this year's dinner in recognition of her many contributions to efforts in behalf of Israel's upbuilding. St. John's role as a Christian Zionist, as defender of Jewish rights in many spheres, his author- ship of numerous books on Jewish subjects, has elevated him to a position of authority on Israel, where he has gathered much of the data for his biographies of David Ben-Gurion and Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, and more recenity on Abba Eban.
