A most familiar face, a voice
that reverberated from Sabbath
and festival to Sabbath and festi-
val, will be missing at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
With the death, last Saturday,
at Grace Hospital; of Joseph H.
Cantor, the synagogue's choir
henceforth will be without the par-
ticipation of a leader in musical
circles, and scores who - had not
left the synagogue before greeting
him will be missing a popular
figure.
Mr. Cantor had served with the
Shaarey Zedek choir for more
than 25 years. He was a mainstay
and an inspiration to many who
had joined the choir he helped or-
ganize and his presence was felt
not only at Sabbath and festival
services but also at daily miny-
anim in which he participated.

LATE JOSEPH H. CANTOR
France Would Improve
Relations With Israel
JERUSALEM (JTA) - France
made a dutiful effort to improve
her relations with Israel as Am-
bassador Francis Hure conferred
here with Premier Golda Meir.
The meeting was described as a
return gesture for the recent visit
in Paris between Israeli envoy
Asher Ben Natan and President
Georges Pompidou.
At the Knesset the chairman of
the foreign affairs and defense
committee, Haim Zadok, told a
22-man delegation of French leg-
islators, general and former tab-
Met members that he hoped for
a renewal of Franco-Israeli amity.
Andre Monteil, chairman of the
foreign affairs and security com-
mittee of the French Senate, prom-
ised Zakok that Israel's friends
in France would continue: to strive
for a change in French policy.
