COMING JUNE 3

RUSTY WARREN

"rho Chontoolsoe al Son

By Danny Raskin

A PAIR OF THE strongest acts
to play the Moon in many a moon,
the team of Miller and McChay
offer wild humor and tight music
. . . while the Action Faction (four
sharp guys and three gorgeous
gals) pour on the action and the
groovy dancing . . In fact, the
frantic footwork (and body En-
glish) of Cheryl Ann and Janis
Ross keep the customers on the
edge of their seats as the terrific
twosome zip through such num-
bers as "Let The Sun Shine In" and
"Cabaret" . . . The "two shows
for the price of one" bit at Hazel
Park's good-time nitery, between
Eight and Nine, is a best bet for a
fun-filled evening.

Market, makes its own pies.
ASKED WHY ON earth the new
baby was named "Encore," a dis-
enchanted father replied, "Well,
frankly, he wasn't on the program
at all."
PEOPLE ENJOY wine because
it looks good, smells good, tastes
good . . . The ideal wine glass
enhances this trio of sensations
. . . The glass is clear . . . it is
large enough so the wine can be
swirled and "sniffed" . . . and it
is a convenient shape for drinking
. Through the years, certain
wines have become associated with
certain sorts of glasses, but pres-
ent-day usage encourages the "all-
purpose glass — tulip-shaped, with
a capacity of about 8 ounces . . .
Such glasses are available nearly
everywhere . . . In pouring wine,
fill the glass only 1 /3 to 1/2 full.
OFFICIAL AMERICAN name
for bagel is "water doughnut."
THERE'S A BISTRO in Chicago
which has a shrunken head dis-
played under the bar . . Under-
neath the head is this sign, "Boy
that sure was a dry martini!"
CALL HIM UNCLE MILTIE . .
Call him Mr. Television . . . Call
him Mr. Entertainment . . . or
call him just plain Milton Berle
. . . Any of the names would fit,
pens Leonard Moss, one of our en-
tertainment guide writers . . .
Milton opened last night at Lofy's
Pavilion Room in Plymouth for a
nine-day engagement with his own
revue . . . "For over half-a-cen-
tury," says Len, "this man has
performed on stage, radio, televi-
sion and movies. No greater ac-
colade could be given Milton Berle
than when the Television Academy
of Arts and Sciences honored him
with this well-earned tribute: "The
industry honors the man who made
the industry.' Berle's stage person-
ality, like many a move villain,
is entirely different from the real-
life Milton Berle. While he comes
off brash, arrogant, fast onstage,
it's just his act. In person, Milton
Berle is rather a gentle man, kind,
considerate, an innate gentleman.
It's a personality far removed from
the nightclub Berle." . . . Allan
Drake, comic who finished with
Sarah Vaughan last week at Lofty's,
will return to the Plymouth spot
on July 1 . .. and then again with
Vic Damone, Nov. 4 . . . Back to
Milton, did you know that besides
being a comic, actor, producer,
publisher, etc., he writes songs?
. . . In his spare time Milt has
had more than - 400 published . . .
like "You Gotta Enjoy, You Gotta
Love Love," recorded by Bobby
Rydell and pop singers . . . and
Barbara Streisand recently re-
vived one of his greatest hits,
"Sam, You Made the Pants Too
Long."
THE LARGE CATERING outfit
seeking a northwest suburban site
is an old hand at feeding and fet-
ing the public . . . Scheduled plans
are huge and lavish . . . nothing
like it anywhere in the middle-
west!
IT'S HAAB'S IN Ypsilanti for
the best food in town there . . . so
make it a point to stop at this
fine eatery spot when in the area
. . Haab's is on W. Michigan.
HAPPY TIME AT Black Forest
on 11 Mile and Washington in Roy-
al Oak is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.,
with all cocktails 75c . . . Daily
hours are 11 to 2, with dinner
served from 5 to 11.
