Paul Marcus, one of Germany's
leading columnists before the ad-
vent of Hitlerism, who fled to Eng-
land to join the British armies in
World War II, celebrated his 70th
birthday in London where he has
conducted a weekly personal bul-
letin for the past 36 years. Marcus,
who writes under the pseudonym
of "Pem," reports on the where-
abouts of celebrities from the con-
tinent, who went into exile during
the period of the Nazi regime.

Bernard Donnenfeld, formerly
vice president of Paramount, has
formed with Robert Wise and Mark
Robson a new production company,
The Filmakers Group, releasing
via Columbia. The first picture to
go into the studio is "Craig and
Joan," a nonfiction story by Eliot
Asinof. It chronicles the "Sui-
cide-for Peace" pact of two stu-
dents, a boy-girl romance disturb-
ed by war ending in tragedy.
