NEW YORK — The National
Council of Jewish Women has
strongly decried violations of civil
rights at the May Day peace de-
monstration in Washington, D. C.
last week.
In a letter to Washington Mayor
Walter Washington, NCJW Presi-
dent Mrs. Earl Marvin said the
rights of both demonstrators and
non-participants were curtailed
and infringed upon. She concluded
by warning that "the violations of
the rights of any person can be
an opening wedge to further and
greater repressions, and seriously
endanger the democratic founda-
tions of our country."
Cantor Harold Orbach of Temple
Israel was honored for his volun-
teer service to the Jewish Commu-
nity Council as host for the past
six years of its radio program on
Jewish music, "Hear Our Voice."
Another award was presented to
Judge Gubow by the Jewish War
Veterans Department of Michigan,
in recognition of his role as Coun-
cil president for three terms. Judge
Gubow is a deelgate from the
JWV on the Council.
