Bnai Moshe Concert Devoted
to Music of Russian Jewry

An evening dedicated to the
contributions of Russian Jewry to
Jewish music will take place at
Cong. Bnai Moshe 8 p.m. Sunday.
This concert, the final event in
the Town Hall Series, will feature -
as soloist Cantor Louis Danto of
the Park Synagogue, Cleveland.
He will perform "A Singing of
Angels," as well as cantorials,
operatic arias and Yiddish folk-
songs.
The Henry Ford High School
Glee Club, under the direction of
Roger Jamison, will sing the
choral parts, and Julius Reznik
will be the narrator for the
musical reminiscence of a world
that is no more.
The author of "A Singing of
Angels," Samuel Rosenbaum,
said he felt it was in the nature
of a religious duty to. recreate
the world of the shtetl, with love
but without sentimentality, with
humor but without ridicule, with
tenderness but without distortion
of the truth.
Although the songs are in Eng-
lish and not in the original Yid-
dish, arranger Charles Davidson
sought to recreate the original
spirit of the songs. -
The- final tribute to the Jews of
Russia will be made by the Bnai ..
Moshe Choral Ensemble, • under
the direction of Cantor Louis
Klein, with a selection of Yiddish
folksongs of early Russian period.
They will open their part of the
program with a Russian Jewish
underground song, 'Let My Peo-
ple Go." This song is based on a
'famous letter by Boris Kochubi-
yevsky to the leaders in the Krem-
lin begging them to let him go to
Israel and live as a Jew among
his own people.
The evening will close with the
ensemble, the artists' and audience
singing "Jerusalem of Gold."
