AT MORRIS BUICK SOUTHFIELD ANSAFONE YOUR PERSONAL SHIRTMAKERS Harris Poll Finds Israelis Support Religion Influence NEW YORK (ZINS) — Despite the fact that only 13 per cent of Israelis regard themselves as "reli- gious," there is overwhelming sen- timent in favor of continued reli- gious influence, it was reported by a Lou Harris Poll conducted in Israel several weeks ago. A total of 54 per cent opposed re- placing religious marriages with civil services, and 72 per cent voted in favor of retaining the present system of serving only kosher food to the Israeli armed forces. The survey indicates that Is- raelis feel generally quite secure. Fully 72 per cent believe that it would be only "slightly difficult" or "difficult but not impossible" for Israel to defend herself with- out financial aid from world Jewry. A total of 67 per cent feel the same way about holding their own even without U.S. support. The Israelis believe they are negotiating from a position of strength and can afford to hold out for concessions they deem necessary. What if this attitude were to lead to a new war? Only 3 per cent foresee defeat, while 91 per cent are certain that Is- rael can triumph over the Arabs in a fourth round. Surprisingly, 56 per cent of Is- raeli Arabs agree. Nearly three out of four (73 per cent) are prepared to return some of the liberated areas for the sake of a final over-all peace settlement, while 18 per cent prefer to retain the present de facto borders. Only 3 per cent want further "expansion," and 4 per cent want Israel to return all of the lands taken during the Six Day War.
