Trade Fair Draws Crowds
(Continued from Page 1)
Center drew record crowds. The
first night's show, featuring Hedva
and David, able Israeli entertain-
ers, was a complete sellout. The
Sunday night movie, "Follow Me,"
a documentary portrayal of the
Six-Day War and the events that
preceded it, was repeated at two
additional performances to comply
with the great demand for admis-
sion tickets.
On Saturday night, the Trade
Fair was opened officially by the
president of the Center, N. Brews-
ter Broder, a brief speech by the
president of the Detroit Zionist
Federation, Carmi M. Slomovitz,
and the presentation of a resolu-
tion from the Detroit Common
Council, by Councilman Carl Levin,
who greeted the important event
as a vital effort by Detroiters for
Israel.
There will be two showings of
the movie, "The Dreamer," at 6
and 8 p.m. Sunday (the latter has
been sold out).
Governor William G. Milliken
issued an "Executive Declara-
tion" acclaiming the observance
of the Israel Trade Fair and the
oncoming observance of the 23rd
Israel anniversary celebration
sponsored by the Detroit Zionist
Federation and the Jewish Com-
munity Council Sunday.
State Senator Daniel S. Cooper
(D-Oak Park) announced the pas-
sage of a Michigan Senate resolu-
tion honoring the Israel Trade
Fair. It was co-sponsored by Sena_
for Jack Faxon.

fied that I had the opportunity to
introduce the fair and to present
the resolution because it repre-
sents the indomitable spirit of the
Jewish people, which under the
most oppressive circumstances,
has shown its ability to persevere
and to contribute magnificently to
mankind's cultural heritage."
Cooper further stated that "the
Israel Trade Fair promises to at-
tract nationwide attention. Locally
J. L. Hudson's downtown store has
set up a special window display.
Numerous organizations, schools
and individuals will make visits to
the fair to view the many Israeli
manufactures on display and to
take advantage of the exciting cul-
tural events program."
Cooper said: "The Israel Trade
Fair also marks Israel's Yom Ha'-
Atzmaut, the 23rd anniversary of
the founding of the Jewish state.
Israel was born despite the hostil-
ity of her neighbors and has flour-
ished in times of adversity. The
Israel Trade Fair captures the
vitality of Israel, and it is an
achievement people of good will
throughout the world could do well
to emulate."
Allied Campaign Nears Conclusion
(Continued from Page- 1)
work, the co-chairmen said. .
Max M. Fisher, national presi-
dent of the Council of Jewish Fed-
erations and Welfare Funds, will
speak at Wednesday's dinner on
the progress of fund-raising drives
across the nation.
Jewish communities throughout
the country are striving to meet
their commitments to the Jews of
the world in raising much more
money than ever before in the
United States. Reports from many
major cities indicate that contribu-
tors are responding with increases
which are sending their campaign
totals to never - before - realized
highs.
Gottlieb Hammer, executive vice-
chairman of the United Israel Ap-
peal, speaking at the report meet-
ing Sunday, cited the many exam-
ples of programs for immigrants
to Israel and the high cost of ac-
complishing them. Transportation
and housing, education and work
opportunities must be provided.
These programs are vital and ex-
pensive, and Israel must look to
American Jews to finance them
since the government's money
must go for defense purposes.
Honored at the final report meet-
ing were those campaign sections
which had reached 100 per cent of
their last "year's total amount
raised and are continuing Solicita-
tions in an attempt to make De-
troit's campaign an outstanding
one in the nation.
Those receiving commendations
were:
Janet Kaman, glass blower at
the Israel Trade Fair, has been
attracting interested crowd s.
Animals indigenous to Israel, as
well as those mentioned in Cie _
Bible, are what she's featuring.
They include camels, scorpions,
serpents and unicorns. Miss Kel-
man, a 1970 graduate of the Uni-
versity of Michigan with a BS
in chemistry, became interested
in glass blowing while a student.
She is self-taught and is now
pursuing studies in fine arts. She
will be at the fair all day Sun-
day.
