Dedication of the new building
of Hillel Day School will take
place May 23.
The ceremony will begin with
a cantoral procession leading from
the little school building on Mid-
dlebelt Rd. to the main building,
followed by the dedication of the
Sefer Torah.
The major address wil be given.
by Isaac Toubin, executive vice
president of the American Asso-
ciation for Jewish Education.
Toubin's career of communal
service covers three decades and
several major areas of Jewish
concern. Toubin has served as
associate director of the Jewish
Welfare Board commission on
Jewish chaplaincy, director of the
JWB's European office and nation-
al executive director of American
Jewish Congress.
Toubin is a graduate of the
Yeshiva University and the Jew-
ish Theological eminary, where
he received his ordination and
master of Hebrew literature de-

gree.
Classes began in the new build-
ing in September 1970 after 13
years of renting classroom space
from various Jewish organizations.
There are 265 students and a
staff of 40.
In addition to the licensed class-
room teachers, the Hillel faculty
includes specialized instructors in
science, art, music, physical edu-

These include spelling bees, sci-
ence fair, Junior Scholastic writ-
ing, choir, sewing club, dramatic
chib, intramural sports, senior
trip, field trips, ski club, library
skills and homemaking. The accre-
dited nine-grade curriculum qua-
lifies graduates for admission to
advanced programs in senior high
schools.
The Hebrew studies program
aims to provide the students
with understanding and fluency
in reading, writing and speaking
Hebrew; a thorough knowledge
of the Bible and traditional
commentaries; a survey of Jew-
ish history, including the Holo-
caust; and studies in Bible,
Mishna and Talmud.
On May 12, at 10 a.m. Hillel will
complete its new building with the
laying of the cornerstone. At that
time, plaque donors will be honor-
ed at a breakfast attended by
community leaders and parents of
the student body.
