SCENE FROM "THE DREAMER"

`The Dreamer," Israel's official entry to the 1970 Cannes Film
Festival, will be shown 8 p.m. Sunday in the Aaron DeRoy Theater
of the Jewish Center. The film, written and directed by Dan Wolman,
was produced by Ami Artzi entirely on location in Israel. The mystic,
timeless city of Safad with its narrow streets and serene atmosphere,
was chosen as the location for this poetic love story. Eli the dreamer
(Tuvia Tavi) is a sympathetic young artist who escapes the modern
world by living in a home for the aged. There he finds particular
beauty in an old woman (Berta Litvina) who sees him as - a son and
a link between the present and her youth. Eli's understanding and
warm response to the old people are disturbed when he meets a
beautiful young girl (Leora Rivlin) from modern Tel Aviv. As Eli's
love for her grows, the young man becomes torn between his love for
the old people, their way of life, and his love for the young girl. "The
Dreamer" will be shown as part of a week long celebration for the
23rd anniversary of Israel's statehood. Admission is $1.50, students $1.
