four weeks of study on the Tech-
nion campus on Mt. Carmel, Haifa,
with two weeks of sightseeing in
Israel and one week in a kibutz.
Enrollment will be limited to 40
high school students, age 16 to 18,
with general interest in science
and technology. There is no pre-

Youth Groups to Play Role in Independence Celebration

Israel will benefit from a num-
ber of carnival games being plan-
ned• by youth organizations taking
part in the community-wide cele-
bration of Israel's independence
May 2 at the Jewish Center.
Booths and tables will be set
up along both entrances to the
Center prior to the formal 11 a.m.
program indoors, and throughout
the afternoon there will be oppor-
tunity to visit the various exhibits.
The May 2 celebration is under
the sponsorship of the Jewish Com-
munity Council and Detroit Zion-
ist Federation, with the coopera-
tion of the Jewish Educators Coun-
cil. The latter has responsibility
for presenting the indoor celebra-
tion.
There will be two simultaneous
programs—one for children in
grades 1-6 in the DeRoy Theater
and the other for older students
and adults in the gymnasium.
Religious school students are
being encouraged to attend the
performance, along with their par-
ents.
The gymnasium program will in-
elude performances by the Ha-
bonim Dance Group and the Dor
Hadash Singers, as well as a
multi-media presentation on Israel

by teen-agers from various syna-
gogues.
At the program for younger
children there also will be sing-
ing and dancing and a little talk
about Israel and Independence
Day.
After both programs, which
will last about an hour, there
will be community dancing on the
grounds of the Center.
Among the organizations which
have reserved space for carnival
games are Wayne State Univer-
sity Hillel Foundation, which will
sponsor a gypsy fortune-telling
booth, and Hashahar Junior High
Group, which will have a "hit
the city" game. Hashahar's Sen-
ior High Group will man an in-
formation table.
Glennwood Chapter of ORT also
is planning a carnival booth, and
