`Golda' Delightful Biography of Israel's Chief Peggy Mann is an admirer of Golda Meir. This proved especially helpful in her writing of the ex- cellent biography, "Golda," which has just been published by Coward, MaCann Geoghegan. Miss Iviann (in private life she is Mrs. William Houlton), caught the spirit of the great woman who is Israel's prime minister, and has proven that age is not an obstacle to genius. That is why Miss Mann was able to place emphasis on Mrs. Meir's assertion: "Age is not a sin." This new biography is an espe- cially welcome story about the leading woman and top statesman of Israel because it is an intimate document about the heroine of the book, and also because it covers the Israel story so well in relation to the chief character in the dra- atic story so well depicted. Originally intended for high school age readers, "Golda" is without question splendid material about Israel and her top leader for people of all ages. It is a com- plete story because it traces the Mabovitch family from Russia to Milwaukee. Life in Wisconsin, early Zionist activities, leadership in the labor movement, campaigning for the ideal of Jewish national rebirth— then the role of statesmanship for Israel — all combine to turn ••••• ■ •••• ■ • (9n the Air This Week's Radio and Television Programs By DANNY JAMES Featuring An Organ for Today's New Sound We also do house parties . 271-4679 • HYPNOSIS • Hyman A. Mrs. Meir's training for the pres- ent post was extensive, as the Mann biography shows. She head- ed major Jewish Agency functions when the UN Special Commission on Palestine did its inquiring, and she was deeply involved in events that marked the defensive Jewish actions for Jewish statehood. The involvement of her family as described in this book adds the personal touches that make Golda a part of the vaster Jewish family. And there are the political in- volvements, Mrs. Meir's American visits, the charm she displayed and which often disarmed antago- nists—these were factors that made Golda a splendid subject for a biography which, under the title "Golda," is certain to enchant the readers. —P.S.
