Baker announced that on Thursday the Detroit Post Office began its par- ticipation in the new U.S. Postal Service's first "National Service Goal," under which next-day deliv- ery of air-mail to numerous cities in 25 states will be offered to De- troiters. The postmaster said that under the new plan, ZIP coded air mail deposited by 4 p.m. weekdays in 61 conveniently located, distinc- tively painted white top "air mail only" boxes will be delivered the next day in most principal and in- termediate towns and cities with- in a 600-mile radius of Detroit, and in virtually any principal city in the continental United States with- in two days of deposit.
