Beth El Women Muster Efforts
for Annual Antique Show, Sale

Among Winners of
Brandeis Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. — Famed
screen writer, actor and director
Charlie Chaplin, sculptress Louise
Nevelson, choreographer George
Balanchine, composer Earl _Kim
and poet Richard Wilbur will be
honored 6:30 p.m. May 2 when
Brandeis University presents its
Rodale Creative Arts Awards at
the Whitney Museum in New York
City.
Cha9lin (who will be unable to
attend the ceremony), Mrs. Nevel-
son,_ Kim and Wilbur will receive
the Creative Arts Awards Medal.
Balanchine will receive a special
medal for notable achievement in
the creative arts.
The four Creative Arts Awards
Citation winners will be film-
maker Bruce Baillie, composer-
conductor John Harbison, poet
James Wright and sculptor Claes
Oldenburg.
Each of the nine winners will
receive a $1,000 stipend in addi-
tion to the award.
The Creative Arts Awards Me-
dal winners are selected in recog-
nition of a lifetime of distinguish-
ed achievement. Citations are con-
ferred on particularly talented
artists, usually in mid-career.

Michael Sanford Frank of Cop-
man Blvd. was honored for out-
standing achievement at the an-
nual honors convocation at the
University of Michigan. He will
graduate with a BS degree and
enter Michigan State University's
medical school.

George Goldstein, 77

George Goldstein, 906 Garland,
died April 10 at age 77. A resident
of Flint the past 40 years, Mr.
Goldstein leaves a son, Richard: -

Nathan Fleisher, 2746 Berkley,
died April 15 at age 79.

USY 'Israeli Night'

United Synagogue Youth will
present an Israeli Night 4:30 p.m.
Sunday at Cong. Beth Israel.

Trope, Israeli dancer from Ann
Arbor; Margo Lite, a speaker
who appeared at the regional
USY convention this year; Bernie

(Rose) Somberg of Detroit, and
four grandchildren.
