MANAGER OF A new high-rise
apartment for senior citizens was
demonstrating the manually op-
erated elevator to a couple when
one of them asked, "What would
happen if the cable broke, would
one go up or down?" . . . the
manager reflected a bit and re-
plied, "That would depend mainly
on how one lived."
BEN AND VIOLET Feldstein,
just back from a vacation in
Mexico, reminds us that it isn't
travel that broadens one . . . as
much as that rich foreign food.
THAT SAMMY WOOLF testi-
monial dinner - bash is gathering
momentum daily with Dr. Al Nick-
amin's staff sending out announce-
ments along with the committee
headed by Max Sosin, busy-busy
with the distribution of tickets for
the affair that indicates a sell-out
at Raleigh House, •May 25th . . .
words to the wise, get your tickets
early and an aside to Sammy
Woolf . . Nice guys finish first!
DIFFICULT TO match the
warmth and geniality of Kiki and
John Sills who each year host the
window display artisans and their
wives at the Michigan Apparel
Club banquet at the Raleigh House,
This has been going on for so
many years that the offspring of
some of the displaymen who have
taken up the trade, will be regu-
lars, too.
KUDOS TO Oak Park High's
`Mr. Chips' . . . teacher Aaron
Goff who is fast becoming our
good-will ambassador to Wash-
ington and Toronto. A pioneer in
the Oak Park school system. Goff
was one of the good reasons that
helped shape one of our siblings to
become a teacher, too . . . nephew
David Lewis tells us that Goff's
class-outing to Toronto was fantas-
tic with something to do almost
every minute.

finished watching a television movie
where the cowboy hero and his

girl rode off into the sunset to-
gether.
MORE PEOPLE are terminating
their cigarette habit these days
with the use of hypnosis . . . about
60 per cent are successful with
this modality while the rest are
able to cut down considerable. It
is logical to assume that any meth-
od having this degree of success
would be a good one.
HAROLD APPLEBAUM, in his
young and virile 70s, used to al-
ways get a chuckle when in the
heat of an argument someone
would tell him to, "Go back where
you came from" . . . Harold's moth-
er was born in Detroit, too. When
we asked Harold if a generation
gap existed when he was a boy, he
replied, "Are you kidding? . . . the
kids were so busy helping to keep
the home fires burining that there
really was no time for one."
WHILE. COMING out of the local
bakery shop one early Sunday morn-
ing, Charlie Hopman bumped into
Bernard. Issacs who was Charlie's
principal at the old United He-
brew School back some 40 years
ago. Issacs, who has been active
in Hebrew school administration
on the national level, was so
pleased to be remembered that
he mailed Charlie one of his books
of selected short stories that was
translated from Hebrew into Eng-
lish in Israel . . personally
autographed.
