TEL AVIV (JTA) —Israel freed
10 Lebanese soldiers who had been
held as prisoners of war for more
than 14 months. An official com-
munique said they were released
"upon the request of the Lebanese
authorities."
The soldiers crossed the border
under Red Cross auspices at the
Rosh Hanikra border station. They
were captured in an Israel army
raid on Kala village in Lebanon
during 1970. The raid followed the
kidnaping of an Israeli watchman,
Shmuel Rosenwasser, who has
just been released.

Zionist Youth Council.
The program, composed of
dances of labor, nature and love
and comprising dances of the vari-

LONDON (JTA)—"Never before
had the Soviet Union injected any-
thing like the quantity of sophisti-
cated military equipment into a
non-Communist country in such a
short time" as it did into Egypt in
1970, according to the Institute for
Strategic Studies.
The institute's annual report
states that the USSR gave Egypt
200 pilots. 150 MIG jets and
S2.500,000,000 in military aid in
1970. Soviet personnel there now
totals 12.000-15,000 missile experts
and 4,000 "advisors" and the finan-
cial aid since 1967 totals $4,500,-
000,000.
The institute contends that this

coring to one conference par-
ticipant.. The majority of the dele-
gates to the conference, 'held in
Newton, urged adherence to Mr.
Nixon's program of "maintaining,
the balance of power and not im-
posing a settlement," including
"all pressures, however well-
motivated, to impose pre-deter-
mined and futile plans on Israel
and the Arab states.
The resolution also called on
the Big Powers to "desist from
those activities that cripple the
process of free negotiations, which
alone can bring the Middle East
to the threshold of genuine peace."
The conferees further urged that
the Big Powers and the United
Nations desist from activities and
statements which undermine the
delicate balance of UN Resolution
242. In an additional statement,
the conferees elaborated that "The
regrettable fact . . . is that the
great powers and the UN Secre-
tariat are obstructing any Israeli-
Egyptian negotiations, direct or
indirect (by turning) the so-called
talks under Dr. Jarring's auspices
(into) a mere cover for a big
power dictate."
Some 27 organizations participat-
ed in the conference which was co-
ordinated by the Israel Task Force
of the Jewish Community Council
of Metropolitan Boston.
