JNF Education Council Formed
Leaders in Jewish education and
yOuth movements met last Friday
at the Jewish National Fund offices
to form the JNF Michigan Region
Education and Youth Leaders
Council.
The new council will prepare and
sponsor JNF and Israel activities
for school and youth programs.
Speaking at the conference was
Harry L. Won, New York educator
and chairman of Keren Kayemeth's
youth and education commission.
Discussing Jewish education in
Israel and America today, Wo11
distinguished between today's
situation and the goals of Jew-
ish education in the past, which
imparted Jewish learning and
knowledge to a receptive student
from a home which was commit-
ted and identified with Jewish
living. He stressed that in Israel
it was the goal to teach a living
language, Hebrew and citizen"-
ship so that the student could
take his role in the ranks of
Israelis.
Those joining the Education
Council include Cantor Arthur Ash-
