Passover Message From Council

By ALFRED E. KLEIN
President
As we join in the Passover fes-
tival celebrating the liberation of
our people from slavery in Egypt
over 3,600 years ago, our joy is
diminished by the thought of those
of our people who are still en-
slaved by poverty and who must
live in hostile lands under econom-
ic, social and political peril.
The Hagada tells us, "Those who
are hungry, let them come and eat.
Those who would celebrate Pass-
over, let them join us." For the
Jews of the rest of the world, free-
dom means sharing—helping im-
migrants build new lives. The
majority of the 50,000 immigrants
who will arrive in Israel this year
are experiencing real freedom, as

.we .understand it, for the first time.
They come from lands of oppres-
sion and persecution, where the
word "Jew" means- "enemy." For
today there are many Pharaohs.
Because we have promised
these immigrants all these free-
doms, our contributions in 1971
must be on the unprecedented
level—a level which reflects not
only deep concern, but total com-
mitment.
The theme of Passover which is
demonstrated by the symbols and
rituals of the holiday is an exalta-
tion of freedom and human dig-
nity. During the seder we relate

A DETROIT BANK-er,

Like Annie Ruth Williams...

Annie Ruth ... Ann ... Miss Williams ..
it really doesn't matter which name you
use, but Annie Ruth Williams definitely
likes to be called by name. And,
to her way of thinking, everyone
does. That's why she does
her best to remember your
name, so she can greet
you personally every time
you stop in. If you like the
feeling that you're a name,
not a number, you'll like
Annie Ruth. She's head
teller at our Linwood-Jciy office.
