The world premiere of an all-
black major motion picture, enti-
tled "Sweet Sweetback's Baad-
asssss Song," took place Wednes-
day at the Grand Circus theater.
The film is the creation of a
black man, who is credited with
having written, composed, pro-
duced, directed and edited it, as
well as being its star.
• 'Melvin Van Peebles is the man
of many talents who has earned
his credits through his film work
in France, where he "Wrote and
published five novels, besides mak-
ing the film "Story of a Weekend
Pass"; and on the West Coast and
in Hollywood, where he produced
documentaries and directed "Wa-
termelon Man," starring Godfrey
Cambridge.
For the Grand Circus engage-
ment, which will involve the first
public showings of the film any-
where in the world, the policy will
provide for continuous perform-
ances commencing 11 a.m. daily,
and popular admission prices, in-
cluding the theater's opening-day
"Ladies' Day" . policy, admitting
ladies for 75 cents all day.
