THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Two Young Writers Prepare Scripts for Passover Special Creative talents of two young Jewish college students are being utilized for the presentation of two Jewish Community Council-spon- sored television specials on Pass- over themes April 11. Some Are Silent," written by Lois Clamage, 20, is a contemporary drama, to he filmed on location in a suburban home by Channel 4, with film time scheduled for 4 p.m. April 11. Metropolitan opera star, Cantor Richard Tucker, will be heard in a seder service. Series host Cantor Harold Orbach of Temple Israel will comment on his renditions, Jewish traditions and the holiday of Passover—tak- ing note of the conditions of Soviet Jewry today with recitation of "The Matzo of Hope." April 11. For this production, the station is creating a set depicting the shteti of which Sholem Aleichem wrote. The play by Miss Clamage, who like Parnos is a student at Wayne State University, will be taped in the home of Cantor and Mrs. Har- old Orbach in Bloomfield Twp. Evelyn Orbach, broadcasting as- sociate for the Jewish Community Council, commissioned both writ- ers to prepare their scripts. For the Clamage play, a tele- vision mobile unit will com- pletely wire the Orbach home, * providing a variety of settings for the scenes. It is considered highly unusual for a station to make such extensive—and ex- pensive—preparations for a locally taped television play. * The set for the Parnos script * is being designed by the head of Channel 7's graphics department, with attention to such details as live chickens for the shtetl yard. Mrs. Orbach, who is directing both casts, has prepared hundreds of radio and television scripts for Jewish Community Council-spon- sored programs, as well as holi- day specials at frequent intervals. Miss Clamage, who is majoring in creative writing at WSU, won the '1970 Frank G. Tompkins Award for Creative Writing at Wayne. She is co-editor of the Wayne Women's Liberation mag- azine, co-editor and publisher of Lamb-Rags, an independent prose magazine at Wayne and read her own material at the Jewish Center Book Fair last year. * * * HIGHLIGHTS Time: 9:45 a.m. Sunday Station: Channel 2 Feature: "Passover With Goldie Adler." Mrs. Adler will discuss the traditions of the seder and the involvement of the family in Passover celebrations. Evelyn Or- bach is program producer.
