Rabbi Silverman's Interpretation of Reform Judaism

Rabbi William B. Silverman of
Kansas City provides a valuable
definition of Reform Judaism in his
interpretative "Base Reform Ju-
daism," published by Philosophi-
cal Library.
He touches upon every aspect
of Reform Jewish experience and
does not ignore the problems that
are confronted by Reform in Is-
rael. He believes it to be inevitable
for Reform Judaism to come to
Israel. He states that it may not
be called "Reform" there but that
"undoubtedly it will be a type of
liberal or progressive Judaism
which will be indigenous to the
people, the state and the land."
He envisions new directions for
the movement and in relation to
current happenings and new de-
velopments he asserts:
"For the Jew it has been, is and
MRS. JOSEPH GUGGENHEIM shall be — his religious faith, the
Shelly Nina Barak became the faith .of Israel, the faith of the
bride of Joseph Irwin Guggenheim God-seeking, humanity-loving Jew
a faith that is dynamic, rele-
in a recent ceremony.

Shelly Barak Is Bride
of Joseph Guggenheim

She is the daughter of Dr.. and
Mrs. Sidney Barak of Wales Ave.,
Huntington Woods. The bridegroom
is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Guggenheim of Brooklyn.
The bride wore a candlelight
chiffon gown with ruffled de-
colletage, full sleeves and
ruffled midiskirt. Over it, she
wore a pearl and paillette jew-
eled embroidered linen vest. She
carried pale green cymbidium
_ nre.L.ids and wore her confirma-
tion pearls.
Attendants were Barbara Robins
and Jerry Joffe of Brooklyn.
Following a honeymoon to Por-
tugal and Spain, the couple will
reside in Detroit.

vant, progressive, ever seeking
truth, ever questing the light, a
faith predicted on the reality of
the present but a faith that makes
its convenant with the future. This
is the faith we call Judaism, and

it is Reform Judaism only when
the Jew looks beyond himself to
universal man entering into part-
nership with God in an act of
creating the better world to come."
