Israel Trade Fair to Highlight
Independence Week Observance

The week beginning April 24 will
be a busy time at the Jewish Cen-
ter, as it celebrates the anniver-
sary of Israel's independence,
which occurs April 28.

The Israeli Trade Fair, co-spon-
sored by the Detroit Zionist Fed-
eration and the Center, will open

official entry in the Cannes Film
Festival of 1970, will be shown in
the DeRoy Theater."

May 2 Celebration
to Be Outdoors

The communitywide celebration of
Israel Independence Day will be
held May 2 on the grounds of the
Jewish Center, it was announced
by Judge Lawrence Gubow, presi-
dent of the Jewish Community
Council, and Carmi Slomovitz,
president of the Detroit Zionist
Federation. The annual celebration
has been held under the joint spon-
sorship of the two groups since
the re-establishment of the state
of Israel in 1948.
Carnival booths and information
tables will be set up at the celebra-
tion. Organizations which would
like to reserve space may do so by
calling the Jewish Community
Council, 962-1880.

Citrus Is Abundant
in Gaza This Season

The Gaza Strip has yielded more
than 55,000 tons of citrus export
this year, already exceeding the
past season by more than 10,000
tons.
The area's three packing plants
are running at full capacity. One
is Jewish-owned, one Arab-owned
and one jointly owned. They em-
ploy a total of 1,200, at a minimum
wage of $2.10 a day.
Economic sources in the military
government of Gaza report plans
to expand the industrial district at
Trez by about 25 acres. They also
report 15,000 Gaza Strip residen
working .in' Judea:and Samaria.
