Above All, VOTE, Mayor Feder
Requests of Southfield Ciiizerts,

TINT

Southfield Mayor Norman Feder,
seeking re-election in Monday's
balloting, urged voters to know the
facts in the hotly contested cam-
paign and then asked that they
not leave the final decision to a
few residents.
"The entire community will have
to live with the decisions that are
made in the election," said Feder.
"Certainly the future of Southfield
is too important to be decided by
a handful of the residents."
A practicing attorney with a num-
ber of years in government, Feder
is running against John Riley, a
member of the Southfield School
Board who has run for various
offices.
Feder said considerable misin-
formation has been spread in the
campaign, chief of which was the
misstatement that he has raised
taxes 27 per cent.
"The fact is that the mayor
cannot raise taxes," Feder said.
"He also cannot raise assess-
ments, as my opponent must be
aware. In addition, Southfield's
taxes are 20 per cent lower than
the 18 neighboring communities."
Feder added: "It is difficult to
respond to misstatements. But we
have faith in the people's intelli-
gence and are attempting to make
known the many positive aspects
of Southfield as well as to correct
the misinformation."
Feder has long been active in
civic affairs and homeown'ers and
subdivision associations. He served
a year and half on the Southfield
Zoning Board of Appeals before
his election to the. Southfield City
Council in 1965. He served as coun-
cil president for two years and has
been mayor since January 1969.
The mayor's top priority is the
continuance of -Southfield's rec-
ord of providing security for its
residents through efficient police
and fire departments.
He names increased cultural ac-
tivities, road completions, drainage
ancl„sewer- projects, and parks and
recifttion programs among the
major improvements which have
taken place just within the last
year of his administration.
Mayor Feder, an attorney 30
years, and his wife, the former
Helen Kadushin, have lived in
Southfield since 1955. They have
