Her fiance, soon to graduate
Hudson Co.—and half the profits

will go to medical research, thanks
to the owner of the collection, John
Weiss of Southfield.
Weiss, whose identity was re-
vealed this week, has sought
anonymity as the owner of the col-
lection of prints, some of which
date back 500 years. Some re-
portedly are among the earliest
thend-colored prints ever made.
_A native of Hungary, Weiss
descended from a well-to-do fain-
ily of exporters and money lend-
ers. In their dealings with impor-
tant European families, they had
the opportunity to acquire private
print collections.
Weiss' own family fled Europe
in 1939, at first settling in Canada.
During the 1930s, Weiss helped
350 of - his employes and their fam-
ilies come to this country to escape
the Nazis.
To house the prints, Hudson's
has built a special gallery, "The
Old Print Shop," on its seventh
floor.
