He will succeed C. Rhodes Smith, who is retiring at age 75. Justice Freedman, born in Zhi- tomir, Russia, 62 years ago, came to Canada with his parents at age 3. He was named to the Mani- toba Court of Queen's Bench in 1952, to the Manitoba Court of Appeals in 1960 and served as the chancellor of the University of Manitoba. He has long been active in the fields of Jewish education, and in Jewish and pro-Israel activities.
