Simon Blumenthal, ()Hest
Stock Exchange Member

NEW YORK - Simon B. Blum-
enthal, oldest member of the New
York Stock Exchange and longest
holder of a seat in the exchange's
history, died Monday at age 91.
Mr. Blumenthal, who began his
career as a runner, obtained his
seat on the exchange in 1905.
When his firm, Zimmerman and
Forshay, went out of business in
1923, he retained tbe -seat and was
active until a month ago.
Mr. Blumenthal until recently
put in a vigorous day as a stock
exchange specialist-a floor mem-
ber who makes a market in cer-
tain stocks. During the 1929 mar-
ket break, he. recalled, "I didn't
sell out, I hung on." .
Bernard J. Lasker, chairman of
the exchange, said Mr. Blumenthal
"exemplified the brokers' motto:
'My word is my bond.' "
