Gesher HaziVei kibutz camp,
sponsored by Histadrut and Ha-

bonim for several years, •is in
western Galilee. just north of the
resort town of Naharia..
The kibutz was founded in 1949
by a core of Habonim Youth from
America and - the veterans of
Kibutz Beit Haarava.
Air-conditioned cabins ha v e
been constructed as an extension
of the guest house. Counselors
and instructors are drawn mostly
from the kibutz members and the
rest from American Hebrew Uni-
versity students.
All participants in the Gesher
Haziv program are required to
participate in formal Hebrew
-
study classes.
The educational period during
the early weeks of the camp will
be devoted to giving the camper
a general background. The con-
tinuity of the Jewish experience
in Israel will be the basic theme
of the summer educational pro-
gram.
Activities include sports, arts
and crafts, photography, hikes and
bonfires, folk dancing and sing-
ing, oneg habats, Bible study and
archeological excursions.
Within a defined framework,
campers enjoy a large degree of
self-government. Campers elect
committees io run day-to-day af-
fairs, and to voice their opinions
concerning camp activities.
For those who desire, a tra-
ditional religious service is held
en Shabat. In addition, other
services are held in which vari-
ous aspects of celebrating She-
bat are explored.
In line with kibutz ideology, one
principle of the summer camp will
be the concept of self libor. Camp-
ers and the kibutz children work
together on a constructive project
which can be completed by the
summer's end. This emibles a re-
lationship to build - between the
American campers sad the kibutz
children over the rammer. All
work within the camp is done by
the campers and crawlers them-
selves.
Folk dance and - game nights
along with other formal activities
are planned throughout the sum-
mer. In addition, many of the
campers are invited to the homes
of the kibutz children,
