THE FABULOUS "Love Affair"
given by Susan and Michael Aller
recently at the Roostertail, brought
out a choice 400 folks who saw
decorations as never before . . .
The Valentine motif was outstand-
ing in its unbelievable decor that
was breathtakingly lavish . .. The
400 attendees comprised a mixed
cross section of people from all
walks of endeavor . . . Of course
Michael sang, and Cantor Harold
Orbach of Temple Israel gave a
fine -medley from "Fiddler on the
Roof".... Champagne, three kinds
of wine to go with various courses,
liquor galore and food, food, food,
made up a "love affair."
DEBBIE PARTRICH has a singu-
lar distinction . attending three
Sweet 16 parties on the same day
... for Becka Reifler, Connie How-
ard and Sherrill Kurland ... a big
rush, says Debbie, but so much
fun.
YALE SIMONS, ex - Detroiter
now a prominent land developer
in Phoenix, was recently
named "Man of the Year" by the
Phoenix Advertising Club ... Yale
was selected primarily for his
efforts in founding in 1967, and
fostering the Phoenix Seventh Step
Foundation, an organization de-
signed to rehabilitate ex-convicts
. . Since this very worthy group
was begun, Yale has devoted much
of his time and money to it . . .
with his services including visits to
the Arizona State Prison, where he
conducted both pre-release and
post-release classes . . . Guest
speaker at the dinner for him was
Barry Goldwater, 1949 honoree.
WHILE IN OLD Grace Hospital,
Shirley Adler was considered quite
the famous one by those on her
floor ... An old girl friend, Louise
Randall, who had stood up at her
marriage to Harold Adler, now
vice president of Hughes-Hatcher-
Suffrin, 23 years ago in Muskegon,
was the wife of moon-walking
astronaut Edgar Mitchell.
ONE SUMMER, at Fresh Air
Camp in Brighton, Leonard
Schwartz, 16, took a piece of clay
and shaped the figure of Lincoln
... Today, an internationally known
sculptor whose works have ap-
peared all over the world in one-
man shows, he is at the Arwin
Galleries on Grand River today and
tomorrow ... Professionally known -
as "Leonard," he was an orphan
and never knew his real name un-
til he was nine years old . . . By
age 16, the Jewish Child Placement
Bureau had referred him to over 21
foster homes to no avail . . . Uuti-
mately, the Jewish Community Cen-
ter became his only home . . .
When they discovered his artistic
talent, they found a room for him
to work in, where be was discov-
ered by "Kashloon" and became
his protege . . . Leonard was only
25 when he was awarded a
Guggenheini Fellowship, the
youngest ever to win such en
honor, and is now head of the
Faculty of Sculpture at Maidstone
College of Art in England . . . In
1960, he was commissioned to de-
sign the figure in front of the
Jewish Center . . a 12-ton block
of Indiana limestone carved to
represent his concept of the indi-
vidual and the community and
their interrelationship.
SYLVA LIPSON, a teacher at
Hampton Elementary in Detroit,
and remembered well by so many
community-Hes, has retired . . .
Her quarter-of-a-century was spent
as a-gym and sixth grade home-
room teacher.
Time is waste of money.
—Oscar Wilde.
