Pincus, chairman of the Jewish
Agency Executive, said at a meet-
ing of engineers that the percen-

their countries of origin would be
much smaller if Israelis showed

According to Mr. Pincus, 12

Foreign Students in Israel

.

By HAIM SHACHTER
JERUSALEM — According to
data supplied by the Foreign Stud-
ents' Authority attached to the
ministry of absorption, there were
5,663 foreign students registered
in the various institutions of high-
er learning in Israel at the begin-
ning of 1971. If we deduct from
this number the 360 students who
were still completing preliminary
and pre-academic studies before
admission to the various universi-
ties, it follows that 5,303 students
from foreign countries were ac-
tually attending courses in Israel's
institutions of higher learning at
the beginning of the year.
A breakdown of this figure shows
that 2,590 were men and 2,705
women. Among these students,
1,696 had parents living in the
country, 3,421 had parents living
abroad and 186 had no parents;
4,652 of the students were unmar-
ried; 574 were married and 77
were eithei divorced or widowed;
