Participants in the program in-
affairs, is in the U.S. to get Torah cluded Dr. Robert A. Spivey of
scrolls for new communities in
Israel.
According to the religious af-
fairs minister Zerah Warhaftig,
an increasing number of border
setlements, kibutzim, army out-
posts, schools and institutions have
submitted a request for Torah
scrolls. The supply of scrolls.
brought from Romania, has now
been depleted.

The ministry's report stated
that in the past three years,
4,694 Torah scrolls have been
requested from 433 different
localities.

Thus far 1,300 scrolls have been
distributed, and there is an im-
mediate need for 800 scrolls for
places that have none at all.
Rabbi Ralbag hopes to obtain
scrolls not only from synagogues
on the verge of closing, but also
from existing synagogues. This,
he feels, could "simultaneously
serve as a direct link between
donor and recipient and serve to
enhance the ties between the res-
pective communities."
The JTA was told that the con-
sulate general of Israel in New
York and Israel consulates through-
out the U.S. and Canada are pre-
pared to receive and ship scrolls
to Israel.

Florida State University, w h o

analyzing the discussions; Dick T.
Hollands and Landon Haynes, of
the Miami Herald staffs.

Wider communal participation in
Zionist affairs will be mobilized
in the introductory assembly of the
Detroit Zionist Federation, on the
basis of the Jerusalem Program
adopted at the World Zionist
Congress in 1969, at the rally at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek 8 p.m. March
14.
Rabbi Israel Miller, president of
the American Zionist Federation.
will be guest speaker, it has been
announced by Carmi M. Slomovitz,
president, and Rabbi Moses Lehr-
man, vice president in charge of
programing of the Detroit Zionist
Federation.
A call has gone forth to all local
congregations and organizations to
name delegates to the assembly.

Speaking briefly on the "hectic
problems facing humanity today.
which are creating doubts in the
minds of people," Handleman
expressed confidence that the
dialogue introduced in new com-
munications studies may lead
toward better understanding
among citizens in this and many
other lands.

Dr. Spivey encouraged efforts
towards the needed understanding
among peoples so that what is be-
ing transmitted should also be
properly received.
Dr. Enslin admonished the audi-
ence that mutual misunderstand-
ings would vanish if religion could
bring man into harmony with his
fellows so that each "may have
the richest and fullest life." He
strongly condemned fundamental-
ism.
"If a truth we shall seek, we
shall find it," he declared. "We
shall reap what we sow. If we do
not sow, we shall not reap."

Lehrman stated. He said that rep-
resentatives of all local Zionist
groups will participate in the de-
liberations planned for the March
14 assembly.
