Under Dr. Albright, he began his career as a biblical archeologist, taking his first trip to Palestine in 1927. He traveled mostly on foot and investigated every dig being conducted there. He alternated between teaching at HUC, where he became profes- sor of Bible and biblical archeol- ogy, and the Middle East.
