Local Women Cited for Hearts of Gold

For outstanding community
service, Mrs. Sidney Cohen of
Kenosha Ave., Oak Park, and
Mrs. William Warren of Parsons
Ave., Southfield, were among the
12 Wayne-OakwoodfMacomb County
volunteers saluted at the annual
Heart of Gold recognition luncheon
this week.

iary, she was its first president
and later re-elected.
As Department of Michigan
hospital chairman for four years,
Mrs. Cohen has devoted more
than 4,000 hours to the patients
in the Dearborn, Ann Arbor and
Battle Creek Hospitals.
Mrs. Cohen has prepared and
mailed more than 700 packages to
overseas servicemen during three
years as co-chairman of "Pack-
ages to iVetnam" committee. She
also has given hundreds of hours
to serving the military as a volun-
teer with the USO.
Mrs. Warren was cited "for in-
spired leadership and selfless hu-
manitarianism which brought a
second chance at life for a-friend,
a dental education program to the
inner city and joy to youngsters in
a Wayne County shelter."
Nominated by the Detroit
Women of Alpha Omega Dental
Fraternity, she was cited for
collecting enough trading stamps
to purchase a kidney machine
for the ailing husband of a mem-
ber.
She launched a continuing fund-
raising effort to secure equipment
for the Kidney Foundation of
Michigan and an educational pro-
gram for her organization.
Under her leadership, the Alpha
Omega women succeeded in in-
corporating a dental program in
the Detroit Public Schools health
education program.
At the D. J. Healy Children's
Center, a Wayne County shelter
for nondelinquents, Mrs. Warren
has been her group's entertain-
ment chairman for several years,
arranging parties and. special pro-
gra ms.
Chairman of the community-
wide recognition ceremony was
Mrs. Aaron H. Gershenson. The
luncheon was staged by the Heart
of Gold Award Council at Cobo
Hall.
