Preparing for the 33rd annual
banquet of the Council of Ortho-
dox Rabbis, Rabbi Leizer Levin,
president, has issued a call to all
congregation presidents, Jewish or-
ganization leaders and interested
individuals to attend the banquet
March 7 at Cobo Hall.
The Vaad is active in the areas
of kashrut, Jewish education, Sab-
bath observance, "Family Purity"
and Israel.

NEW YORK (JTA)—The Amer-
ican Zionist Federation has set the
evening of April 28 for a celebra-
tion in Carnegie Hall of Israel's
23rd anniversary. It expects a mini-
mum of 17 parades in communities
across the country and is asking
local AZF chapters to urge their
mayors and governors to issue
proclamations designating April
29 as Israel Independence Day or
the week of April 25 as Israel
Independence Week.
(Because the anniversary this
year falls on a Friday—April 30,
the fifth of Iyar—it will be cele-
brated on Thursday, April 29.
Pianist JOANN FREEMAN will
perform the Beethoven Piano Con-
certo No. 4 in G-Major at the open-
ing concert of the second "Pop
Cycles" series at the Roostertail
9 p.m. Feb. 24. Mike Quatro's
"Jam Band" also will be featured.
The classic-and-pop series is a pro-
gram of the Detroit Association for
the Performing Arts, Inc. It is co-
sponsored by the Mayor's Commit-
tee for the Cultural Center.
Rabbi Levin, head of the Beth
Din, stated that the religious court
offers the opportunity to any indi-
vidual or organization that wants
to settle differences, to settle them
there and avoid litigation in civil
court.
He further stated that the of-
fice can be called on any question
regarding Jewish law, religion and
ritual. A rabbinic bureau to coun-
sel on marital problems, family
adjustments and personal relations
will be maintained.

duction of its sausage and other meat products in De-

stead of the Detroit Council of Orthodox Rabbis sup-

Chicago by recognized rabbinical authorities.
The Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Detroit takes this
