Feb. 20, with a program of Holly-
wood and Broadway music. Winter-
halter, known primarily for his
records and work in motion pic-

"The Shining People of Leonard
Cohen," a ballet based on the love
poems of folk-singer-composer
LEONARD COHEN, will be one of
the works presented by the Royal
Winnipeg Ballet at the Masonic
Auditorium, 8:20 p.m., Feb. 19.
Choreographed by the Winnipeg's
Brian MacDonald, the ballet fea-
tures an actor reading lines from
Cohen's hymns to the flesh,
matched by a sound montage
created by the Toronto Symphony's
composer - in - residence Harry
Freedman.

An added attraction at the Strat-
ford (Ontario) Festival this year
will be the THIRD STAGE, a thea-
ter in the park featuring drama,
mime and puppets. Michael Baw-
tree, the Festival's Workshop Di-
director, will direct "THE RED
CONVERTIBLE," a new play by
one of Latin America's leading
dramatists, Enrique Buenaventure,
in its English-language premiere.

poration, JOHN J. RICCARDO,
and his wife, Thelma, were named
general chairmen of the Mea-
dow Brook Music Festival and the
theater executive committee. Ford
Motor Company Vice President
JOHN J. NEVIN and his wife,
Anne, will serve as the executive
committee vice chairman.

BERNARD E. LINDEN of Frank-
lin, a native of Detroit and long
active in the civic and Jewish af-
fairs of the city, has been elected
to the board of trustees of the
Union of American Hebrew Con-
gregations, it was announced by
Earl Morse, chairman of the
UAHC board.
Dr. I. I. RABI, University Pro-
fessor emeritus, department of
physics, Columbia University, New,
York, will be the speaker at the
seventh annual Southeastern Michi-
gan Junior Science and Humanities
Symposium, Feb. 26 and 27, at
Wayne State University. Dr. Bahl
received the Nobel Prize in physics
in 1944 for his resonance method
of recording the magnetic proper-
ties of atomic nuclei. He works as
a member of the General Advisory
Committee of the Atomic Energy
Commission, which he chaired
from 1952-56 and is a recipient of
the United States Medal of Merit
and the King's Medal of Britain.
His discussion topis will be "Scien-
ce and the Public Interest."

is expected to leave for the United
States in a few weeks on behalf of
the United Jewish Appeal. The trip
is regarded in Jerusalem with

developments personally with
leaders of the Nixon administra-
tion.

scored some successes with the

JERUSALEM (JTA)—The U.S.
Department of Agriculture has
awarded a $52,500 research grant
to the Hebrew University's faculty
of agriculture at Rehovot for a
project to develop biological war-
fare against harmful insects. The
faculty is headed by Dr. David
Rosen.
The project envisages the use of
a certain species of wasp to des-
troy the "coccid scale," an insect
harmful to plants. The use of one
insect specie against another is
