Marder, Stanzler Appointed
Campaign Associate Chairmen

Murray Moss, chairman of the
1971 Flint United Jewish Appeal
Campaign, announced the appoint-
ment of Dr. Ira Marder and Dr.
Jack Stanzler as associate chair-
men.
This appointment is another hon-
or in the list of Dr. Stanzler's ac-
tivities. He won the Council's
Young Leadership Award for 1969;
is chairman of the Council's corn-

PACT and Flint Branch of the
American Civil Liberties Union.
He chaired two programs of in-
formation and inquiry sponsored
by the Flint Jewish Community
Council in cooperation with the
University of Michigan: "The
Jew and the Urban Crsis" and
"Can Judaism Survive the Col-
lege Experience?"
Dr. Marder, treasurer of the
Flint Jewish Community Council,
has been active in the UJA cam-
paign in many capacities. Last
year, he served as chairman of
the Pacesetters Division. A found-
er of the Flint Jewish Community
Council's young leadership train-
ing program, he was a recipient in
1967 of the Council's Young Lead-
ership Award. He is a past presi-

elected president of the board of
the Service Center for Visually Im-
paired, Inc. previously board treas.

He is vice chairman of the Michi-
gan Chapter of the American Acad-
emy of Optometry and serves on
the central budget committee of
the Red Feather Fund of Genesee
and Lapeer counties. Dr. Evelyn
V. Golden was elected secretary;
and Mrs. James Hallem has been
elected to the board for a three-
year term.

Barbara Garypie, soprano will
entertain. Mrs. Garypie has sung
with the Flint Symphony Orches-
tra and for the St. Cecelia Musical
Society, She is a graduate of the
Curtis Institute of Music and
Wayne State University and re-
ceived a master of music degree
from the University of Michigan.
She is on the staff of the Valley
School in Flint.
Funds raised at the donor are
used to support the Beth El relig-
ious school.

Fred Goodman,

Grocer 48 Years

Fred C. Goodman, 3424 Clement,
died Jan. 30 at age 75.
Mr. Goodman was born in De-
troit and has been a resident of
Flint for the past 48 years. He was
a member of Cong. Beth Israel, a
veteran of World War I and owned
and operated a grocery business
in Flint for 48 years.
Surviving are his wife, Fay, two
daughters, Mrs. Jack (Janet)
Berck and Mrs. Jerome (Elaine)
Ross; a brother, Louis of Los An-
geles; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie
Dunitz of Los Angeles, Mrs. Jennie
Feldman of Miami Beach and Mrs.
Lottie Lieber of Southfield; and
three grandchildren.

UJA Sends 48
Study Missions

TEL AVIV (JTA)—A 1,200-woman
special United Jewish Appeal mis-
sion, led by Mrs. Bernard Schee-
nan of Dallas, toured Israel to see
at first-band UJA support of the
humanitarian needs of Israel.
The women came here from
Austria where they visited the site
of the Nazi Mauthausen death camp

and visited Vienna where they met
refugees "in transit" from Eastern
Europe. Mrs. Schaenan said that
the program of aiding such Jews
was supported by the Jewish
Agency, an effort to bring_people
together with their families in other
parts of the world.. .
The number of such study- mis-
sions from overseas Jewislr com-
munities has increased from six in
1967 to 48. a study mission from
Toronto was advised by Dr: Israel
Goldstein, chairman of Keren
Ilaynsod.

David Beren, 64

David Beren, 2229 Mason, died
Jan. 28 at age 64.
Born in London, Ontario, Me.
Berea had lived in Flint for the
last 43 years. He was a member
of Cong. Beth Israel and was in
the grocery business for 22 years
and the trucking business for five.
Surviving are three-sons, Ernest
Berein of Southfield, Larry Berein
of Lansing and Steven Berein of
Columbus, Three . .brothers, Hyniarr
of Windsor, Arthur and Isadore
and eight grandchildren.
