Commission on Human Rights to
give top priority at its forthcom-

which has been on its agenda
since 1963.
The item relates to a study by

country including his own, and
draft principles adopted by the
Subcommission on the Prevention

of Minorities on the basis of the

Shaarit Haplaytah, an organiza-
tion of survivors of the Holocaust,
bestowed its Humanitarian Award
upon Mrs. Romualda Ciesielska-
one of the "Righteous Gentiles"
at a meeting last weekend at Tem-
ple Emanu-El.
This distinction was awarded to
Mrs. Ciesielska "with pride and
gratitude for her courageous serv-
ices on behalf of other human
beings during the terriile era of
Nazi atrocities. Her outstanding
devotion, compassion and self sac-
rifice were vital in rescuing many
lives from the Nazi extermination

camp."
(Mrs. Ciesielska, who has been
visiting here since December, was
featured in a Jewish News article
Dec. 25.)
Dr. John .7. blames, chairman
of the remembrance project, out-
lined to the gathering of 300 mem-
bers and guests the highlights of
the heroic assistance rendered by
Mrs. Ciesielska to many people
during the Nazi era. These exploits
were doctartented by Tad Vashem,

Jewish community will remain

tireless efforts to save others from
Nazi annihilation. You, like the
other great heroes of the past, will
be inscribed in the annals of our

Special thanks were expressed
to Mrs. Irene Janlde for inviting
Mrs. Ciesielska to the U.S. and ex-
tending hospitality and assistance
to her.
Mrs. Ciesielska was invited by
the headmaster of Hillel Day

seeking to leave the Soviet Union
were highly qualified specialists
(engineers, doctors, scholars). .
Dr. Prinz said: "This may be so,
but if indeed this is the situa-
tion, then the answer to the
problem is not to slam the doors
in their faces, but to halt cam-
paigns of discrimination and
denigration and not exact from
such Jews as the price for
continuing to live in the Soviet
Union, the forfeiture of their
Jewish identity, heritage and
self-respect."
He quoted a recommendation

unanimously adopted a few days
ago by the 17 member states of
the Assembly of the Council of
Europe asking their governments
to intervene with the authorities
in Moscow and to urge both free-
dom of emigration for Jews and
to grant to the Jewish commun-
ity the cultural and religious
rights guaranteed to all national
and ethnic groups by Article 123 of
the Constitution of the USSR.
Dr. Prinz paid tribute to the
courageous and dignified affirms-
ation of Jewish identity made by
an increasing number of Soviet
Jews, and expressed brotherly
solidarity with them.
